There are several effective ways to improve website speed, including reducing HTTP requests, compressing images with WebP formats, and enabling advanced caching techniques like server-side caching and database caching. Optimising CSS and JavaScript files and improving Core Web Vitals are also essential for ensuring your website loads quickly.

A good performance speed for a website is typically under 2-3 seconds for full page load on both desktop and mobile devices. Ideally, Largest Contentful Paint (LCP), one of the Core Web Vitals, should be within 2.5 seconds or less. In terms of Core Web Vitals, you want a PSI score of 90+

It depends on what’s actually slowing it down. If the foundations are sound, clean code, decent hosting, a reasonable plugin load – targeted optimisation will usually get you to 90+ Core Web Vitals without touching the design or content. If the underlying build is the problem (bloated themes, conflicting plugins, no proper image strategy, layouts that fight Core Web Vitals by design), optimisation becomes a sticking-plaster that has to be reapplied every few months. We’ll audit your site honestly and tell you which camp you’re in. If optimisation will get you there, that’s the cheaper, faster route and we’ll recommend it. If the foundations are a blocker though we will propose a rebuild on our Agitate99 process to give you better long-term value.
